Annual cleanup week set Oct. 20-24 in Commerce

It’s the city-sponsored event during which residents can put furniture, appliances and other materials at the curb for free city pickup and disposal.

The service is limited to city residents. No materials from businesses or industry will be picked up.

Citizens are asked to segregate the special items from typical yard wastes. Putting them together may result in the city not picking up any of the materials. Likewise, any hazardous materials in the mix may result in the city bypassing the entire pile.

Examples of items the city will pick up include furniture, appliances, household items, bicycles, water hoses, books, paper, etc.
Tires, batteries, building materials and demolition materials will not be accepted.

Residents should take the materials out to the curb this weekend for pickup Monday through Friday.

People with old tires to dispose of may take them to the Jackson County transfer station, located near the county jail, Saturday morning for free disposal in a program sponsored by Keep Jackson County Beautiful.
