A 15-year-old girl who allegedly stole her mother’s car after an argument faces a host of charges after she nearly ran over a Commerce police officer.
According to the report, the officer was working a traffic stop in the area of U.S. 441 and Hwy. 326 at about midnight when another officer warned him of an oncoming vehicle. The officer said the vehicle went by him at a high rate of speed, nearly striking him.
The officer pursued the vehicle and activated his lights to pull it over, but the vehicle kept going, hitting speeds of 100 miles per hour, according to the officer.
The officer drew his gun, ordered the driver to exit the vehicle and lay face down on the ground. After handcuffing her, he found out she was 15.
The girl, whose name was not released because of her age, told the officer she and her mother got into an argument and she waited until her mother was asleep before taking the vehicle to drive over to a cousin’s house.
She will be charged with motor vehicle theft, obstruction of an officer, reckless driving, fleeing and attempting to elude, violation of the move over law and driving without a license, according to the arrest report.
