America may have elected Barack Obama president in a landslide Tuesday, but the Democrat’s coattails did not extend to Georgia, and certainly not to Jackson County.

The county remained overwhelmingly red, handing John McCain a 17,772-4,947 win. Jackson County backed incumbent GOP Senator Saxby Chambliss 15,765-5,414 over Democratic challenger Jim Martin and helped incumbent State Rep. Paul Broun beat challenger Bobby Saxon 16,166-5,964 as Broun carried 61 percent of the vote districtwide. State Senator Ralph Hudgens won Jackson with a 13,275-4,715 margin over Democrat Tim Riley as he carried the 47th District with 65 percent of the vote.

More than 65 percent of Jackson County voters went to the polls.

Former Commerce resident Lauren “Bubba” McDonald finds himself in a runoff for the Public Service Commission. McDonald won 48 percent statewide, with Democrat Jim Powell at 47 percent. Libertarian Brandon Givins’ five percent put McDonald (R-Cumming) into the runoff with Powell.

Commerce Special Election

Former city councilman Archie D. Chaney Jr. won the Commerce City Council special election to fill the unexpired term from Ward 1. He won with 66 votes in a race that drew only 34 percent voter turnout. Keith Burchett received 49 votes and Aretha Hill 34.

City voters approved the increased homestead exemption on school taxes for low-income elderly residents by a 326-94 margin.

Figures for the Commerce election are changed from the original announced results following a routine recount that resulted in the finding of a number of previously uncounted ballots. The additional ballots added one vote to Chaney's total and 38 to the homestead exemption referendum, but did not alter any election outcomes.

Wow! Insulting everyone in Georgia sure does make things better, doesn't it! I wish I had thought of that!

And you have to love the "I'm so much smarter than everyone that I'm ALWAYS RIGHT and EVERYONE else is always wrong" arrogance, too!

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

You know, we really should do something to help people that are so small minded. There should be a hospital somewhere that we can lock them up in, for their own safety, or at least put them in so that the good doctors can help them.

Say whatever you wnat about Obama. Deal with it because he is YOUR president. Fuss, complaint whatever you want, but at the end of the day Obama is still going to be your president. It was okay to complain about Bush but not Obama? What a hypocrite. Must be because Bush is white. It would be racist to say anything bad about Obama. By the way, no one has even said anything about race. Quit trying to make this a racial thing!

GO KEVIN!!! I totally agree with the U-haul comment.
Pitty, why are you calling Obama "BLACK" when he is
actually half white and half black. Last I heard that
would label him as a "Half Breed". Therefore, we have
neither a "BLACK" or "WHITE" man as president.
This shouldn't be a racial issue anyway. The ethnicity of the president shouldn't matter. What should matter is whether
he will do all that he has promised or is he going to be
like everyone else has been, out for himself. Time will
tell what kind of president he will turn out to be. Their
true colors always show eventually.

Obama made alot of promises that he can't or won't keep. One thing I can say though even alot of whites voted for him because he is saying all this crap about helping the middle class and the poor but lets see if he does anything and to #4pitty you tell us to deal with it because at the end of the day Obama is still our President too. He is not my President I did not help elect him.You keep wanting to bring race into it.I voted for the man with more experience. Bat Man has more experience fighting crime than Obama.But in his defense I say give him 6 months and if it hasn't changed for the better find a tall oak tree and a short piece of rope.Hang him high and let him swing until the sun goes down. That's a line from a COUNTRY SONG but I don't expect you to understand that.

You are one of the most ignorant and offensive people I have ever encountered. If he is not your president, then please, do us a favor and leave the country. Not supporting a leader because you didn’t vote for him and don’t agree with everything he says is the most unpatriotic thing I’ve heard in while.
