A 7-year-old boy was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta Friday night after he was ejected from a vehicle during a wreck. Witnesses said he appeared to have suffered serious injuries.
According to the Commerce Police Department, Jorge Sanchez Espinoza, 38, of Athens was traveling north on U.S. 441 near its intersection with Hwy. 334 when he turned his Dodge Caravan left into the path of a Ford Explorer driven by Judy M. Price, 53, of Gainesville, which was traveling south on the bypass.
The impact caused the Caravan to overturn, Jair Sanchez, 7, from the vehicle. He was transported by Jackson EMS to the nearby parking lot of the old Ingles shopping Center where Life Flight picked him up for transport.
Espinoza, Mariana Rebollar, 26, and Lisa Sanchez, 9, all of Athens, and all passengers in Espinoza’s vehicle, were transported to Athens Regional Medical Center due to “serious” injuries, according to the accident report. Rebollar had to be extricated by rescue personnel.
Espinoza was charged with three seat-belt violations, two of them for children ages 6-18; failure to yield right of way and improper turn.
Although, I do have to say that as an public librarian, I was appalled and ashamed, upon seeing our local newspaper with a blatant misspelling of such a wonderful, prestigious hospital for children, such as Egleston. I was shocked to see it was put online for all the world to see for at least 2 or 3 days spelled wrong! Our Commerce newspaper editor appeared as an uneducated employee, who didn't edit or proof read his story, in order to catch such an obvious error. Thank goodness you finally corrected the blaring error and stopped spelling Egleston hospital as "EGG" ELSTON, with two G's. Someone must have brought it to your attention. Thanks to you, who ever you are, as it was awful to see, I cringed!
My, My! Someone obviously didn't pay attention in their English classes throughout school. You must have had your head down on your desk sleeping or skipped class the day spelling was taught. That was mean spirited to say and I realize that. But, I'm slightly angered, after all this was a direct reflection on us as a community. This is on the world wide web for Pete's sake, for all to see, read and critique. We want to appear as fine, educated people as any community should. So, please in the future, do all of us a favor here in Commerce and check your stories for obvious misspellings. Spelling errors are understandable, but not in journalism. Words are your living, so spell them correctly.
