A Nicholson woman who thinks the election of Barack Obama as president will end racism in Jackson County may need a presidential pardon.
Commerce police arrested Gail Louise Brown, 51, of 163 Tommy Barnett Lane Dec. 9 after she allegedly cursed loudly and repeatedly as police diffused a domestic incident at BJC Medical Center.
Barnett was one of several family members who went to the hospital to see a male “under protective care” at the facility. Staff called the police after family members refused to leave.
Barnett, according to the officer’s account, did not go quietly. She allegedly made repeated and loud obscene remarks. She also charged that “Jackson County is redneck and racist and Obama would change all that once he’s in office,” the officer said.
Barnett was charged with disorderly conduct.
It took many years to make them this embarrassingly ignorant, so I doubt the term(s) that any president serves could ever make them understand, even if they were smart enough to learn. It's deeply ingrained in them (the racism), and it's appalling to see it in action, you wouldn't believe it. I know I was so pleased when any and all contracts that my firm had with them was over. I have never been so glad to be out of the presence of uneducated, ignorant people in my life. I came home and told my wife that I thought I had died and gone back in time to the 1940's or 50's in term of the ideas and mindset of these people in Jackson county. Not even Obama or Bush can help this kind of ignorance. There's a lot more needed than just presidential intervention--my God that wouldn't even begin to touch the tip of the iceberg of ignorance of Jackson county officials.
I was ashamed to be standing with them and be thought of as one of them. They're a disgrace to other law enforcement agencies statewide and believe me, I'm not the only man in my department that thinks this way, other counties who have dealt with them concur. It's a running joke, sadly they're a laughing stock, but that's what happens when several from different counties join together at conferences, benefits & outings. Jackson county needs to become more forward thinking , to wake up and stop carrying old prejudices learned at the feet of their parents and grandparents. Just think what kind of children they are raising-the apple doesn't fall far from the tree-sad to say, they will be just like their parents, prejudiced and think like the back wood rednecks who taught them. Let's hope they're children get enough positive influence from modern thinking teachers or other family members who might live far away from Jackson county and are educated and give them a view on what life is really like. What a shame it is and how embarrassing for Jackson county, as a whole, to be represented by such people in law enforcement. It takes an outsider to recognize just how bad it is. It would be wonderful if Obama could help, but Jackson county law enforcement needs a lot more than Obama could give them or this woman either who they reported has faith and hope in him. Jackson county needs to stop living in the racially divided past, needs to learn tolerance, to learn love for all man kind and most of all get educated,it's never too late. Even for the good 'ol boys of Jackson county. This woman must have been quite upset to be taken away from someone she cared about, even it was the law, emotions can be strong, causing one to want to over ride it. I can understand her pain, but I know she needed to follow what the law say to do and to leave. But, God bless her for having hope, even if it's in Obama. There are many people who are white, black, asian and latino, who also have the same hope for Obama. Who doesn't want a better condition for our country and for our men & women to be brought home from conflicts we have no business in. I too hope and wish the best for Obama, to be he could be green or orange, as long as he serves us well. I've learned better through the years, thank God or I would be an embarrassment to the county I represent as well as Jackson county. Shame on you for reporting this, it's as if you are laughing and making fun of what this woman said, who is probably Black. Reason I say that is because you never would have made fun of it or written it in the paper,if I'd said it for example, since I'm white. You wouldn't want to report a white woman screamed at you that she had hope for Obama. Further more, as far as having hope, whether it's hope in Obama or not...HOPE is always a good & positive thing to have. Without hope, one has nothing. This article is proof that even reporters and news writers aren't immune to this thing called racism & prejudice. Only God can help all of you with your racial issues and I hope He does ...and soon. Curious to see how many responses filled with misspelled words and bad grammar my post will receive...which by the way, will only will prove my point of uneducated ignorance.
IF she had not been black (as I assume she was) and she had been white or another race and she had said Obama would help her out of this, then it wouldn't have even been reported on. The reason I say this is I can't tell you the number of times I've heard Whites, just as white as I am, say that Blacks think that since Obama won, all will change and butter & milk will flow like water and fall from the sky. In other words, Whites laughing at Blacks for having hope that Obama will make a change. THAT was the point I was making! That this wouldn't even have been significant to report,if some jack leg along the way didn't think,
" hey, let's print it in the paper what the officers said that woman who was arrested said about Obama helping her, hee hee hee, don't that sound just like what a " black" would say! Let's report it in the paper and let all read about it, so they can laugh and say, look here, hon, what it says in the paper! Some black woman shows her azz in a hospital and has the nerve to scream out to arresting officers a bunch of obscenities! Plus that crazy woman said Obama will help her! ha ha ha!"
NOW do you get my point? Damn, can't believe I actually had to write an explanation for you to get it! I was saying that the article could have been reported that YES-she showed her azz and was rightly arrested. THAT I agree with! Point I made was the Obama remark she made had NOTHING to do with the report of being arrested. You never see where 'ol redneck white boys like my 2nd cousins from Jackson county who get arrested, about all the remarks they make to officers and what names the White's make to officers. Believe me, they can shout obscenities and say some off the wall BS, too. See what I mean? You don't ever read what a redneck calls an officer when reading articles about their arrests. And believe me, I've been called every thing but my name ...by ones I've arrested of ALL colors and have been told everything from they were calling the Governor to their mama who would blow me away! But, do you think me or my fellow officers write each damn crazy remark or that obscenities were screamed at us? NO! Hell, we'd all still be filling out reports if we did, it happens so often! So, what I was saying is this: it wasn't even newsworthy to add the Obama comment. NOT that I disagreed with her being arrested or was I saying it's because she was Black and not White and blah ,blah blah. I wasn't saying that at all. I agree with the arrest. Just said that after all this time ,it looks like Jackson county would have gotten over this racial thing. After all, like I said... if it had been a White, Asian or Latino woman who said, "Obama will help", hell, it wouldn't even been given a thought, much less reported in a damn paper! So, before you respond to me, READ what I say. This is just too damn funny. I see it hasn't changed a bit in Jackson county.
Kudos!
