Store clerk arrested in alcohol sting

Commerce police, along with a confidential informant and personnel of the Department of Revenue, went to 11 stores that sell alcohol by the package.

Only at the Tobacco Outlet did the underage informant succeed. There, the police report said, she was able to purchase a six-pack of beer without showing any ID.

“One out of 11 means that there was less than 10 percent noncompliance,” commented Police Chief John Gaissert.

Gaissert also pointed out that the Dec. 30 operation was limited to package sales, but “restaurants are subject to a check too,” he warned.
