Several days of wet weather followed by high winds on Wednesday caused a number of trees to fall.
In Commerce, city Public Works employees removed a white pine that blew down into other pine trees at the corner of Lakeview Drive and Dogwood Trail. The workers put the tree on the ground due to its proximity to school traffic.
City workers dealt with six or seven other trees blocking roads or knocking down utility service lines. In addition, winds caused short-lived power outages in parts of downtown. Among them was a tree that fell on a Georgia Power line on Homer Road, knocking out power to the traffic light at the intersection of Homer Road and U.S. 441. A street light also blew down on North Broad Street.
In South Jackson, a utility pole blew over onto a mobile home, creating a hazard that led to the dispatching of fire personnel to the residence.
