DUI charges pending in wreck

Two people were injured, one seriously, in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 441 and Hwy. 334.

According to a Commerce Police Department report, the driver of a southbound Dodge Dakota pickup truck turned off U.S. 441 toward Ingles into the path of a northbound Ford Explorer, which struck the pickup.

The driver of the pickup, Timothy Kem Parr, 322 Cabin Creek Road, Commerce, was unresponsive at the scene and was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital.

According to the police report, Roy Casey, 33, Jefferson, a passenger in Parr's truck, admitted to police that he and Parr had consumed several beers prior to the accident. Two open 16-ounce beers were found in the vehicle. Casey was transported by Jackson County EMS to Athens Regional Medical Center.

Charges pending against Parr include driving under the influence (DUI) of intoxicants, driving with a suspended license, violation of the open container law and failure to yield right of way.

The driver of the Explorer, Russell M. Croft of Nicholson, declined medical treatment.
