Police department recognized for help with toy drive

The Commerce Police Department was honored Wednesday for its assistance with the 2009 Toys for Tot drive to provide Christmas gifts for needy children in a 16-county area.

CW04 Ray Fairman presented a certificate of appreciation to the department. Police chief John Gaissert and chaplain Joel Hammond accepted the certificate on behalf of the department.

Fairman reported that the drive collected more than 48,000 toys and $10,000 in cash over the 16-county area.

Both were records for the annual event.
