The Jackson County ban on washing cars and using pressure washers will likely end this week, say officials of the Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority.

That won’t be a moment too soon for people answering the phones at the authority’s Jefferson offices.

CHS update: two classes to get temporary homes

Some larger Commerce High School classes will need temporary homes.

Health occupation and art classes will relocate to extra space at Commerce Elementary School during the construction of the new CHS as the existing classrooms will be demolished this summer. This option, approved by the BOE Monday, is much less costly than supplying modular units to house these classes for the two-year building period.

After defeating Athens Academy and Prince Avenue, last week the Commerce baseball Tigers are sitting comfortably in the number two spot in 8-A, just behind Lakeview Academy. Commerce track Tigers had a rough outing Saturday at the Jefferson Relays. Finishing seventh and eighth overall the Lady Tigers and Tigers nonetheless had a number of placers at the meet. City adds $8 to cost of every police citation

The cost of being bad just got worse.

The Commerce City Council voted Monday night to increase the “technology surcharge” added to every citation issued by the Commerce Police Department from $12 to $20. The new charge is effective May 1.

Maysville approves steep water, sewer rate hikes

Maysville residents may see large increases in their water and sewerage bills in the near future.

The city is applying for a $750,000 loan for sewer line and manhole rehabilitation. If it gets the loan, the city will raise water rates by 24 percent and sewerage rates by 36 percent to cover the debt service and to counteract a $89,000 water budget shortfall.
