Luke Derochers was announced Monday as the STAR student for East Jackson Comprehensive High School.

Superintendent of schools Shannon Adams made the announcement at the annual STAR/Teacher of the Year Reception held by the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce at the Lanier Technical College Commerce campus. [Full Story »]

Two candidates qualified for the March 16 special election to fill the Ward 5 seat on the Commerce City Council.

Steve Ayers, 62, who lives on Orchard Circle, and Johnny Eubanks, 58, who lives on Northview Drive, both qualified early Monday morning.
Qualifying ended at noon today (Wednesday).
