City closes blood-splattered Harmony Grove Grille

The city of Commerce closed the Harmony Grove Grille Monday after city police found one of the restaurant’s owners asleep amidst blood on the restaurant floor.

It turned out that co-owner Hal Walsh had apparently cut his hand severely. He and Reggie Pittman, identified as the grill’s sous chef, were sleeping off the previous night’s alcohol, according to officer D.E. Kiser, who responded to the scene.

At first, though, officers feared the worst.

School board shortens Commerce school year

Commerce students’ summer break just got longer.

Faced with either laying off teachers or shortening next school year, the Commerce Board of Education will reduce the 2010-2011 school calendar by 10 days.
