The Commerce Tigers’ and Lady Tigers’ golf seasons got under way last week, as Commerce played host to Banks County at Double Oaks golf course. It’s hard to know what to think as the Republican majority in the House of Representatives takes up the issue of trimming government spending.

We need spending cuts. We want spending cuts, but that’s about all we agree on. Like a 500-pound man who’s put on 25 pounds a year and sees reducing the annual weight gain to 20 pounds as a victory, much is being made of the GOP plan to trim spending by $100 billion. [Full Story »] 

Shoplifter faces two drug charges

A man suspected of shoplifting at Fred’s, South Elm Street, wound up with much more serious charges against him after he was found to be in possession of a prescription drug without a prescription, according to the Commerce Police Department.

An officer was summoned to the store because of a shoplifting call. He entered the store, heard yelling and saw a man taking off shoes and yelling, “I was not trying to steal them,” to a nearby clerk. [Full Story »]
