Earth Day — Saturday, April 16 — is shaping up to be a very busy day in downtown Commerce.
It’s the day for the Commerce Fire Department’s chickenque, which brings in hundreds from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and local merchants will hold a “tent sale” of closeout merchandise in the trackside parking lot at Spencer Park.
In addition, a large body of citizen volunteers is expected to show up to pick up litter, plant flowers, power-wash sidewalks and address other aesthetic issues in the downtown.
Mark McCannon briefed the Commerce Downtown Development Authority on the plans at its March 23 meeting.
