Among the great families of North Georgia is one from Commerce. Its history is characterized by service to the community, to Georgia and to America. Although no longer in residence, they are well remembered for their achievements and the lives they touched here.
I grew up with the children of one Hardman generation, Lam, John and Shell, and was in school with them beginning in the Methodist Church kindergarten. Three of us were in the legendary Commerce High School Band, all in the sax section, and we went on to Georgia before going our own ways.
A number of locations remind of the family. The Commerce Library Hardman Heritage Room is one that we all enjoy. And everyone is proud to have the Governor’s Mansion once occupied by Lamartine Hardman and family. But the big news today comes from White County.
