Commerce School System officials remain on pins and needles while the General Assembly decides how to fund schools next year.
“The governor has approved an FY 2010 budget that cuts Commerce funding by $1 million,” worries James E. “Mac” McCoy, superintendent of schools.
Commerce school officials can't finalize hiring plans until they learn how much state funds they'll receive for the next school year. The General Assembly is finalizing the budget this week — but if this year is any indication, even the "final" budget might be further reduced during the school year.
