After reports of a deadly strain of swine flu spreading from Mexico into several U.S. states, local officials say they’re keeping an eye out for the disease to spread into Jackson County.
“The Georgia Emergency Management Agency has been in coordination with the Georgia Division of Public Health, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other emergency management partners in regards to the swine flu outbreak,” advises Charles Dawson of GEMA in an e-mail to all local EMS directors. “The current health situation facing the nation must be taken very seriously and governments at all levels must be vigilant in monitoring of the events.”
The outbreak began in Mexico and has spread rapidly. The first U.S. fatality was reported Wednesday.

hey mark, check out buffington's "art" for his report on the flu...i like your relevant picture better -- it's more journalistic, you know, and isn't that the point? you only have your credibility to rely on...

Why is this news? Is it because it sounds scarier than regular flu, which kills plenty of people every year.
