Teller alerts police to forgery in progress

According to the incident report, when Jeffery Lynn Sanders, 32, of 2886 Hwy. 98, Maysville, presented a check by his father-in-law to be cashed, the teller called the man and asked if the check was OK.

The man said that he’d warned Sanders about cashing a check and wanted him arrested. The teller called 911, and a Commerce officer arrived as Sanders waited at the drive-through window.

The report said the officer asked Sanders if his father-in-law knew he was cashing the check, and Sanders said he did, whereupon the officer said he would contact the victim. At that point, the report said Sanders admitted that his father-in-law did not know, but he (Sanders) needed money for groceries.

The officer arrested him for forgery.
