Tracking dogs were deployed at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in an effort to capture a juvenile who escaped police custody near the intersection of Hwy. 59 and U.S. 441.
Officers of the Commerce Police Department said a Franklin County deputy was escorting the male subject to court when he escaped. Details on how he got away were not available.
Officers from the Banks, Franklin and Jackson County sheriff's offices were at the scene, along with officers of the Commerce and Baldwin police departments. Officers patrolled roads around the area, seeking to cut off escape.
A female deputy was taken to BJC Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the escape.
