If Commerce’s chief financial officer and assistant city manager heads to Florida anytime soon, it will be on a vacation, not to take another job.
Steve McKown reported last week that the city of Clewiston voted 3-2 to hire another candidate as its city manager. McKown was one of two finalists for the job.
“While this was an opportunity for my family that I felt I had to pursue, I look forward to my continued work in Commerce,” said McKown. “I have been nothing short of completely flattered and humbled by the outpouring of support from this community in all the phone calls I have received.”
Clewiston, which is located on the southwest shore of Lake Okeechobee, bills itself as “America’s Sweetest Town.” Located midway between the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, the city offered to pay $85,000 to $100,000 for the manager’s position. The city has a $30 million budget and 115 city employees. It also has all utilities except natural gas.
