A trip to Mississippi yielded results for the two Commerce softball teams competing in the Dizzy Dean World Series last week.
Playing in Southaven, MS, the Commerce 14-under and 10-under teams each ended the series with top-10 finishes.
While they didn’t bring home the title trophy, Commerce’s 14-under team did capture the 2009 Dizzy Dean Sportsmanship award.
It came down to luck of the draw for the 10-under Tigers, who finished just outside the top eight after staging their own attempt at a comeback. The girls faced last year’s 8-under world series winning team, and then faced this year’s runner-up.
Coach Chip McClure said that the tournament is something the girls will remember for the rest of their lives. He added that they never quit and played hard throughout the series.
