Price of New Year's party tickets coming down

The cost of ringing in the new year is going down in Commerce.

Officers of the Commerce Area Business Association announced last Wednesday that advance tickets to its Dec. 31 New Year’s party have been slashed by 40 percent to $15 — or a table for eight can be reserved for $100. That deal lasts until Dec. 1. Last year, tickets were $25 and a reserved table cost $250.

“We are hoping we can generate a lot of interest with our prices and get a lot of people involved,” explained Jonathan Milford.
The Athens band, The Highballs, has been booked for the event, which will be held at the Commerce Civic Center. The business association also hopes to work with local restaurants for package deals.

“You’re not going to have to spend a wad to hear a live band,” said Brad Johnson, CABA treasurer. “There are a lot of restaurants downtown they can take advantage of to have a good time without spending a lot of money.”

According to Johnson, the feeling of the board of directors was that in the slumping economy, “more people will be staying closer to home” Dec. 31.
