Submit questions for Commerce political forum

The Commerce Area Business Association and the Jackson County Farm Bureau will hold a political forum Tuesday, Oct. 20, for candidates running for city council and school board seats in Commerce. The election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the Commerce Civic Center. Greg Pittman of the Farm Bureau will moderate the forum.

The two groups invite citizens to submit questions. To ask one or all candidates a question, submit it in writing via email to mark@mainstreetnews.com or present it to CABA no later than its noon meeting Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Questions will be screened by a CABA panel and presented in advance to the candidates.

The following candidates have qualified:

For mayor pro tem, Keith Burchett and Sammy Thomason; for Ward 1, Archie D. Chaney Jr., incumbent; for Ward 2, Darren Owensby and Donald Wilson, incumbent.

For school board District 1, Keelan Cashana Rucker and Arthur Lee Pattman, incumbent; for District 2, Robbie Barnett and Mary Seabolt, incumbent.

This format is a waste of time! Why not just have the candidates mail these campaign speeches in to the newspaper as the questions are provided in advance thus allowing for researched answers or answers provided by someone other that the candidates. I do not plan to attend this scripted event when I can read the "canned" answers in the newspaper.

How do I find who our local Candidates are in the city of Jefferson/Arcade Georgia.

I would like to keep in touch who is in office/running, so I can decide who my family and I want to vote for.
