If our children see it, they will less likely stand by and let things happen that can be stopped, if all we do is get out and vote for the right people. Things are going to happen in our community, that we won't agree with. All we do is talk about it, but that's not enough. Talk is cheap. We have a trash pile in our community. Why was ours chosen? We may, hopefully not, get a junkyard for cars in our community. Why was ours chosen? If we don't care about the life, and health of our children, who will?
If we don't care, do you actually think some elected official will? I hear alot of talk, but I see no action from the ones who talk the most mess. Some may care, some may not. I just happen to be one who cares. I have children growing up here. Some may say they will move. I refuse to be run away from a place I have known all of my life, just because the residents are afraid of getting their voices heard, and doing what is right.
I refuse to have the safety and health of my children in jeopardy. As you read this, I know most of you are saying alot of bad things. That's okay! I'll be alright. I've never been one to care what anyone says bad about me. I bet you won't take that attitude and show up at city hall, or thay may even change the meeting place, wherever it will be.
I dare you to show up at the meeting, and voice your opinions, about what is wrong, and what needs to be done. Make good use of your anger, and join the ones who have the guts to appear, November 9, at 6:30. Hope to see you there.

Editor;s Note: The meeting the writer references will be held in the Commerce Room of the Commerce Civic Center Monday night at 6:30 p.m. The issue is a rezoning on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to allow the construction of a garage/towing service.
Invest your life in a place, then let someone tell you to move to another part of town when something comes up, see how YOU feel about it.
You could use a big old dose of empathy for others instead of being such a cold hearted, sarcastic person.
Regardless of YOUR opinion on the matter, if you do not live there, you should consider the circumstances of the people who DO live there. I can tell that you are the type of person who would be extremely upset if someone from outside of YOUR neighborhood "stuck their nose" into YOUR neighborhood's business. If the roles were reversed, you would be screaming your head off that someone from "outside" was even commenting. Yet you want to toss your opinion out there about someone else's neighborhood when you really have no perseonal interest or investment in it. You merely detract from the situation with your unproductive comments.
I haven’t really spent time in Commerce in years. I would like to know how much has changed, but I’m seasoned enough to know – if there is change, its come slow. And I am sure institutional racism still exists.
