Commerce city employees will get a four-day weekend at the turn of the year, and they’ll get five three-day weekends February through June.
But those extended weekends aren’t a new vacation benefit. They’re the result of six unpaid furlough days proposed to shave up to $100,000 off the city’s expenses during the remainder of the current fiscal year.
City Hall — and all other city offices except the police department — will be closed on six furlough days scheduled through June as the city tries to reduce spending.
