It was a big weekend for Commerce basketball as coach Chad Bridges and the Tigers brought home two wins to bring the season record to 3-1.
Before leaving for Christmas break, the Tigers will compete in the Community Bank Holiday Classic at Piedmont College. The Tigers take on Oglethorpe at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
Bridges notes that Commerce is the only Class A school in the tournament.
“The tournament will be a good challenge for us with several bigger schools in it,” he said.
Commerce could face Banks County again in the tournament. The Tigers defeated Banks last week, 69-43.
It began as a typical evenly-matched game between two long-time rivals, but quickly turned into a Tiger rout in the first game between the teams in more than a year.
Banks started the game a little hotter than Commerce and finished the first period with a six-point lead. The 16-10 score shifted in the second period as the Tigers quickly warmed up and outscored the Leopards 27-3.
The Tigers extended the lead to 51-28 after three periods, then coasted in for the win.
