A Highland Estates woman surprised a burglar as he attempted to enter her home last week, according to the Commerce Police Department. He may go to jail as a result.
The woman entered her house to see a black male standing at a back window holding the window screen. As the homeowner called 911, the man ran off.
17-year-old faces attempted burglary, 911 charge
The same residence had been burgled a week earlier.
When police arrived, the woman gave them a description of the suspect, and the department’s drug/tracking dog tracked the suspect to 62 Land Way, about 200 yards from the victim’s house.
Police knocked on the door of the house, but no one came out, so they called the owner, who said no one should be home at the time.
About that time, police got a report of someone trying to enter Commerce High School through the roof in an attempt to steal laptop computers. One of the officers at the house happened to be the school resource officer, and he, knowing that there would be a lot of people at CHS at the time, was skeptical of the report.
Finally, the suspect exited the house.
He is Ryderrick Grier, 17, of 62 Land Way.
Police determined that Grier made the false report of a burglary in the hopes of diverting police from his house. He was charged with attempted burglary and making a false 911 call.
