The people who lead the effort to lure new industry to Jackson County expect something of a turnaround occurring this year.
Call it cautious optimism. After landing just one major business in 2009, the Aldi distribution center, the county’s chamber president and Industrial Development Authority expect better days in 2010.
Jackson County has plenty of available industrial sites, including the 962,000-square-foot building in the Commerce 85 Industrial Park.
Economic development turnaround this year?

I am glad to see the good economic development that was started by my late husband, Claude Fullerton, continues. He was so proud of the work he began there in the early 80s.

Be glad you don't have the morons running Banks County at your helm, otherwise you'd be circling the banrupcy drain like they are because they wouldn't know development if it crawled up their leg and bit them on the ompa!!

You are right about Banks County---I believe that Commerce can expect many new businesses to plan to locate in Jackson Co because the BOC in Banks is trying to run all the local small businesses out of the Banks county. I relocated my business office in Habersham and I know that at least 2 more moved their offices to Hall because of the problems in Banks. I hope that Jackson keeps this attitude toward both small businesses as well as large/major businesses. It will certainly help the taxpayers here. Good economic development will help this area continue to progress and we can all be proud.

I think the Jackson Chamber does a good job focusing on small business too. Just look at the Chamber's growth. Last year they brought in 160 new business members. They also have a Small Business Development Group that provides learning opportunies and networking for small business. Keep up the good work Jackson Chamber.
