A Commerce man who sought help in renegotiating his mortgage lost $2,500 in what appears to be a scam, according to an incident report filed with the Commerce Police Department.
The victim, a 42-year-old male, told police that a friend advised him that Mortgage Negotiators, Huntington, PA, could “help him with his mortgage.”
The victim called the toll-free number and discussed his situation with “Cindy,” who advised him to “send $2,500 and they would get right to work,” the report said. “They would contact his bank and start the paperwork.”
The man sent the money, but never heard from the company again. When he tried to call the company, the number he used before was disconnected, according to the police report.
