Ward 5 election is Tuesday

“I expect we’ll do good to get 35 percent,” said city clerk Shirley Willis, who is in charge of the city’s elections.

Six hundred forty voters are registered.

As of 3:00 Monday on the first day of early voting, Willis said “four or five people” had come in to vote.

Voting Tuesday will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the Commerce Fire Department side of the J. Nolan Spear Jr. Public Safety Complex on South Elm Street.

The candidates, Steve Ayers and Johnny Eubanks, seek to fill the unexpired term of the late Richard Massey, who died last fall.

The winner will serve through 2011.
