Commerce education leaders continue to play the waiting game with the state as they wait to set next year’s local school budget.
Superintendent James “Mac” McCoy told the Commerce Board of Education (BOE) Monday night that there’s been no new information from the state capitol to change the troubling financial scenario he presented April 1 for Commerce Schools.

That scenario included a projected $1 million deficit and the system potentially cutting jobs for 2010-2011. But local school systems won’t fully know their budget situation until the legislature finalizes its budget.
And for the time being, they haven’t heard anything.
“The good news is that they didn’t take anything else away from us,” McCoy said. “The bad news is that we don’t have any other news to go forward with.”
McCoy said he may hear an update at a superintendent’s meeting this week.
The Commerce Board of Education will continue financial talks at a work session April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Commerce High School media center to discuss budget and personnel.
