A 20-year-old Commerce man was injured Tuesday evening when his motorcycle crashed on State Street just west of its intersection with U.S. 441 shortly after 5 p.m.
A family member identified the victim as Kevin Rylee, of a Cabin Creek Road, Commerce address.
Rylee suffered abrasions and a possible leg injury. He was transported to a local hospital by Jackson County Emergency Services.
A Commerce police officer at the scene said Rylee indicated he braked too hard as he was approaching the intersection from the east and lost control of the Suzuki bike. Rylee ended up on the shoulder of the road, but the motorcycle slid another 75 yards into the intersection, coming to rest between the northbound and southbound lanes of the divided highway.
The officer said witnesses indicated that it did not appear that Rylee was speeding when the bike went out of control.
