Commerce High School officials have decided: The Class of 2010 will graduate tonight, rain or shine.
Eighty-eight seniors are scheduled to receive their diplomas. The only question is where that ceremony will take place.
"The decision will be made at the last minute whether to hold it on the football field or the gym," said a school spokesperson.
The ceremony will start at 8:00 at Tiger Stadium if the weather allows. If not, it will take place in the gym, where visitors will need passes to gain entrance. Each senior was issued passes for eight people.
The National Weather Service calls for 70 percent showers today, with rain continuing this (Friday) evening. After a half inch of rain this morning, the rain stopped by early afternoon – but skies remained cloudy and rain is expected to resume.
Originally, the plan was for an 11 a.m. Saturday ceremony in the event of inclement weather Friday night.
Rain or shine, inside or outside, Joe Sanders is the valedictorian and Deep Patel the salutatorian. Speakers for the event will be the top four honor graduates, including Sanders, Patel, Kyle Franks and Bree Haggard. The theme is “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss.
