A Commerce woman escaped without injury after two men carjacked her vehicle Friday afternoon in the middle of downtown Commerce.
The 58-year-old white female told police she’d just come out of the First Commerce Bank drive-through, turned up Central Avenue and stopped at the red light at Broad and Elm streets when a black male approached her vehicle and pointed a pistol at her.
“You’re gonna take us to Athens,” he declared.
One subject sat in the passenger seat with a pistol in his lap pointed at the victim; another, also a black male, entered the back seat and pressed something against the victim’s head.
The woman said she drove 75 miles per hour most of the way to Athens, hoping to attract a police officer. The men directed her to turn onto the Hwy. 10 Loop and had her exit at North Avenue.
At the intersection of North Avenue and Old Hull Road, the two men jumped out of the vehicle and ran down Old Hull Road, the woman said.
She ran into a beauty salon and had staff call 911.
“We are pursuing a number of leads,” commented Police Chief John Gaissert. “We hope to have a composite drawing soon.”
The report said the victim was able to give a good description of one of the assailants, who was described as six feet tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds.
