Relay for Life Set Saturday at EJCHS

Jackson County residents will do their part to fight cancer Friday and Saturday as the Relay for Life starts at 7 p.m. Friday at the East Jackson Comprehensive High School track.

The relay will continue all night and into Saturday morning. Entertainment will be ongoing all night. Forty-five teams will compete for fund-raising awards.

Five-year-old Harlie Ray, a leukemia survivor, is the ambassador. She was diagnosed last April and is taking maintenance treatments through July 2011.

The Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fund-raising event.

The Survivor Hospitality Area opens at 5:30, opening ceremonies are at 7 p.m., followed by the Survivors’ Lap.

There will be entertainment throughout, a “Ms Relay” pageant at 10:30 and after-midnight games. The cleanup lap will be held at 6:45 Saturday morning, followed by closing ceremonies (and a final lap) at 7:00.
