Jackson jobless rate falls slightly

For Northeast Georgia, the unemployment rate fell to 9.3 percent from 10.1 percent for the same period.

Jackson County’s jobless rate for April was pegged at 10.7 percent, compared to 11.4 percent in March.

Other area counties and their rates include Barrow, 10.2, down from 10.5; Clarke, 7.5, down from 7.9; Madison, 8.2, down from 8.7; Banks, 7.0, down from 7.5; and Hall, 9.0, down from 9.6.

Jenkins County in southeast Georgia boasted the highest jobless rate, 19.7 percent, but that was down from 21.1 percent in March. Oconee County and Long County shared the lowest unemployment rates at 6.6 percent, down from 6.9 and 6.7 respectively.

The national jobless rate was 9.9 percent for April.
