The Commerce City Council will be asked to approve a budget Monday night that anticipates nearly $120,000 more revenue from property taxes than last year.
Passage of the $24.8 million budget will not include raising the city property tax rate — yet — to collect that money. It would, however, obligate the city council to set such a tax rate this fall when the tax digest is final. On the current tax digest, that would require approximately .75 mills more than the 1.66 mills charged last year. The actual amount of the increase would depend upon the size of the tax digest.

If furloughs work at the education level, let's try it at the city level. We are all living in tough times, which necessitate tough decisions.
