Jobless rate holds at 10.7%

Jackson County’s unemployment rate held at 10.7 percent in May, according to figures from the Georgia Department of Labor.

Meanwhile, Georgia’s jobless rate inched up to 9.9 percent in May, compared to 9.8 percent in April.

Other area counties and their unemployment rates include:

•Barrow, 10 percent, down from 10.2 in April

•Clarke, 7.6, up from 7.5 percent

•Madison, 7.8 percent, down from 8.2

•Banks, 6.9 percent, down from 7.0

•Hall, 8.9 percent, down from 9.0

Oconee County continued to have the lowest rate at 6.4 percent (down from 6.6 percent in April) and Jenkins County remained the county with the highest jobless rate, 19.5 percent (down from 19.7).
