Plans for holiday meal go awry

A Baldwin man’s attempt for what may have been a low-cost Independence Day celebration could turn out to be very expensive, according to the Commerce Police Department.

An officer was summoned to Ingles, Hwy. 334, Friday, July 2, where store personnel had Scott Allen Parrish, 47, of P.O. Box 586, Baldwin, in custody.

They told the officer that Parrish wheeled a shopping cart containing $129 worth of beer, other alcohol, dog food, ribs and steak through the checkout line and out the front door without stopping
.
They followed him, confronted him and brought him back to the store.

He was charged with shoplifting.
