Ginn, Coley head to runoff in 47th District

In Jackson County, Ginn received 1,315 votes to 1,162 for Gary, 1,096 for Coley and 316 for Bower.

The 47th State Senate District includes all of Barrow, Madison and Oglethorpe counties, most of Jackson County, and half of Clarke and Elbert counties.

GOP governor; Nathan Deal, 2,043; Karen Handel, 1,260; Eric Johnson, 892; John Oxendine, 846, Ray McBerry, 85, Jeff Chapman, 75; Otis Putnam, eight. Deal and Handle will meet in the runoff.

Democratic governor: Roy Barnes, 512; Thurbert Baker, 141; Dubose Porter, 28; David Poythress, 21; Bill Bolton, 11; Carl Camon, seven; Randal Mangham, zero. Barnes won statewide in a landslide.

Lt. Governor, Democratic: Carol Porter, 445, Tricia McCracken, 201. Porter will face incumbent Casey Cagle in November.

Jackson County also supported Gary Black’s second run for agriculture commissioner by a 4,192-587 margin over Darwin Carter. Black will face J.B. Powell in November.

Ralph Hudgens garnered 48.77 percent of the Jackson votes cast for insurance commissioner. He finished statewide with 20.7 percent and will face runner-up Maria Sheffield, who collected 19.6 percent, in the Republican runoff Aug. 10.

Michael Thurmond carried Jackson County, winning the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Johnny Isakson.
