Madison County's Frank Ginn beat Shane Coley Tuesday to become the Republican nominee for the 47th District seat in the Georgia State Senate.
Ginn won 8,962-7,256 district wide. In Jackson County he collected 2,344 votes to 2,306 for Coley.
Ginn faces Tim Riley in November.
Jackson voters favored Nathan Deal 3,919-2,047 over Karen Handel, helping Deal apparently win the GOP governor’s nomination statewide, where as of early Wednesday he clung to a 2,489-vote lead with 50.2 percent of the vote. That result will be finalized after military votes are counted and a recount is conducted.
Former 47th District state senator Ralph Hudgens of Madison County beat Maria Sheffield in the GOP race for insurance commissioner. He’ll face Democrat Mary Squires in November.
