Commerce police officers helped Jackson County recover a stolen vehicle and arrest the thief last week, but they also had help from the owner of the truck.
An officer responded to a lookout regarding a stolen truck that was traveling on north on Interstate 85 — with another vehicle following it with flashing lights, driven by the owner of the stolen truck.
The officer spotted the vehicle and pulled it over. The driver, Albert Delon Jones, 46, of 3461 Calmer Circle, East Point, told the officer that he’d borrowed the vehicle from a friend, was late in returning it and was en route to return it at the time.
“I advised Jones that this vehicle was being followed by the person he had stolen it from,” the officer wrote. He added that after reading Jones his Miranda rights, “he did not want to talk to us anymore.”
A deputy arrived to take Jones into custody, as the vehicle was stolen in the county.
