Don’t count the chickens before the eggs hatch, but the Commerce Downtown Development Authority is working with three potential new businesses.
Reporting to the DDA at its Aug. 25 meeting, executive director Denise McKay was relatively closed-mouthed about the prospects, identifying one as a bakery, but giving no details about the other two.

She told her board that one group is working with the Small Business Administration on financing and that two of the businesses are considering building in the south part of the downtown.
The bakery, she said, is looking at a Broad Street building because the people trying to start the business could not “make the cash flow work” by utilizing the State Street building that formerly housed the Common Road Bakery.
