An 18-year-old Commerce man out on bond on a felony drug charge was arrested on another felony drug charge last week, according to the Commerce Police Department.
Cpl. Jason Black, a narcotics investigator, said Tevin Rucker, 18, 215 Bennett Street, is charged with conspiracy to distribute marijuana (a felony), obstruction, use of a communications device (a cell phone) to facilitate a drug sale and loitering and prowling following a drug purchase Aug. 25 by a confidential informant.
The arrest didn’t come easy, said Black, as Rucker took off on foot.
The officer gave chase, down a hill, over three fences, until he lost sight of Rucker near Bellview Homes. At that point, the police used their drug/tracking dog and found Rucker in a kudzu patch on the woods line, according to Black.
Black also noted that police executed a search warrant at Rucker’s residence earlier this year, resulting in a felony drug charge. Rucker was free on bond from that charge at the time of his alleged dealing with the informant.
Black said Rucker admitted after being caught that he’d intended to rob the confidential informant of the drug purchase money.
