Those new cameras mounted above traffic lights in Commerce are not really a case of Big Brother watching you.
Well, sort of. Big DOT Brother is photographing your presence at each of the three intersections (Washington Street and North Elm, Jefferson Road and Broad and Elm streets, and Central Ave. at Broad and Elm streets). But he’s not actually interested in you or how you drive, just your vehicle and its location on the roadway.

That traffic light(referred to above)and the one at Wal-Mart(Commerce), you will sit at all day.....maybe this will help.

Overall, the new system works well, but I encountered one of the glitches last week. I was second in a line of about five cars at Central Ave beside First Commerce Bank. The truck in front of me was very close to the center line, apparently out of view of the camera. This must have thrown off the system as I waited around seven minutes before the truck gave up and made a right turn. After I pulled forward, the light began to change as what I'm assuming to be the result of being spotted by the camera. Don't get me wrong. This new system is far superior than the previous system (or lack thereof), but it needs to be tweaked to compensate for issues like this one.

750k for lights that never have more than a few cars at any one time. Stupid. How about being thankful and don't have to sit through 3 or 4 changes like in bigger cities. Money should've been spent elsewhere or or not at all. Taxes are way out of hand because of wasted money like this. "it was a grant, had to be spent." Bs. It still costs every tax payer money. No big deal right. Multiply 750k times the number of small towns in the US. That does come out of your pocket!

Outrageous. Just plain stupid. Why not take that money and use it in the schools instead of cutting teacher's jobs and educational time in the classrooms or use it to build a better suited Boys and Girls club for our kids. So what if you have to wait an extra 3 minutes waiting for the light to turn. Leave earlier, better yet use the time that you are sitting there to pray for our government, that they will make better decisions that affect our daily lives. Obviously, our government needs it along with common sense.

stevo, an american, and outraged...a study shows that it costs 7 cents for an average car to stop and go, not to mention the fuel consumtion within the duration of the stop. That money also comes out of the citizens pockets that travel through these intersections. I am conservative, but your Limbaugh/Bortz rants about everything is, at a minimum, annoying. This investment will save the commuters through this area much more than the cost of the project..so please complain about the poor education our kids receive with all the money we throw at education now.

I chose to live in a small city for small reasons such as small traffic; why should I be greatful that I don't have to sit longer at red lights like they do in larger cities like ATL? I chose to and live in Commerce, GA, not a bigger city.
