City school board ends year with $1 million fund balance

The Commerce City School System finished up past fiscal year way ahead of fund balance projections.

The general fund 2010 fiscal year-to-date report showed the system with a fund balance of $1,042,895 when the projected total was only $688,426. That’s $354,469 greater than expected and something the board of education will gladly accept.

“I am tickled to death about that,” superintendent James “Mac” McCoy said. “We will need it — this year and next.”

McCoy credited the total to the teachers and principals who cut back in their expenses significantly last year.

At next month’s meeting, the board plans to approve the FY 2011 budget.
