Downtown trick-or-treat is Friday night

Local children interested in getting sugared up on Halloween candy will have to decide which of three trick-or-treat events to attend this Friday.

Commerce, Jefferson and Tanger Factory Outlet will host their trick-or-treats that evening. Commerce and Jefferson will welcome costumed creatures from 4:00 to 6 p.m., while Tanger’s hours are 5:00 to 7:00.

The Downtown Development Authority “has scheduled the event to take place at the same time as downtown Jefferson and the Tanger Outlets,” wrote executive director Denise McKay in a flyer promoting the event. “This should decrease the amount of pedestrians, thereby creating a safer and more manageable event.”

The Commerce Police Department will distribute child safety kits in front of the DDA office. Lt. Wes Donaldson said the kits contain place for vital information on children, for fingerprints and for a strand of hair for DNA purposes. The police will not fingerprint kids during the event, however.

“We give the books to the parents, and the parents take care of that,” Donaldson said.

When are we suppose to take our kids door to door to Trick-or Treat? I live in Jefferson I have watched the news and looked in the papers but no one has said exactly when, they all say in deffers from county to county, so what night is it?

Tonight. Friday, 4-6 in Commerce and Jefferson, 5-7 at Tanger outlets.

There has been no official declaration. With nine municipalities and a county government in Jackson County, there's seldom a consensus on anything.

In Commerce, trick-or-treating is generally the same day as the downtown event, which is Friday. But there's nothing official. If your kids don't get enough candy to bring on diabetes downtown, you can catch the last hour of trick-or-treat at the Tanger outlets.

I would like to no this myself, I live in between commerce and Jefferson. People make it so hard for kids to have fun these days.

Ever since the downtown events in Jefferson and Commerce (plus at the outlets) have taken place, there is no "official" trick-or-treat time otherwise.

The fact that kids can load up on candy in the organized events — not to mention the "trunk-or-treat" events at so many local churches — has drastically reduced the canvassing of neighborhoods for candy.

I hate this also, it has become so confusing. I am taking my kids trick or treating ON Halloween. I have talked to other kids in the neighborhood here in Commerce and they said the same thing, they are going on Halloween night, so maybe this will help.

The mall in Dawsonville is doing it mon the 31st from3_6. But I also cannot figure out when to go door to door. Its frusterating!

Would have been nice if this information had been in last weeks newspaper! I have been looking in the newspaper for the last two weeks to see when the downtown trick or treating was only to get online tonight to find out it was tonight! Since nothing had been in the paper, we just thought it was gonna be on Halloween! Commerce must really not want a good turnout to wait to the last minute to put anything out about this. Way to go Commerce!

The trick-or-treat, which is MONDAY night - Halloween - has been in the paper for weeks in the calendar section and has been mentioned several times in stories about upcoming events downtown.

The downtown trick or treat is always on Oct. 31 unless that falls on a Sunday.

So now you can figure out when TOT will be for next year...

Halloween is on the 31st of October, every single year.

You go trick-or-treating on Halloween.

What in the H*LL is so hard to figure out???
