Danielsville man faces statutory rape charge

The Commerce Police Department arrested a Danielsville man last week on charges related to a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old Commerce girl.

William Douglas Parsons, 26, 161 Double Branch Road, is charged with statutory rape, aggravated child molestation and cruelty to children.

Lt. Ken Harmon said the charges grew out of a response to a family dispute at the girl’s home.

“An accusation was made,” Harmon said, “but there were not a whole lot of details. The mother said something happened.”

Officers followed up on the matter and interviewed Parsons, who ultimately admitted a sexual encounter with the girl, according to Harmon.

The activity was allegedly consensual on her part, but under Georgia law a 14-year-old cannot give consent to have sex.

Harmon, who is head of the department’s Criminal Investigation Unit, said the department, with the help of The Tree House, also interviewed the 14-year-old.

The incident happened at the girl’s home, Harmon added.
