A Monroe man faces seven traffic charges, including drunk driving, after he and a friend were reported to be intoxicated in the parking lot of Ingles.
According to the Commerce Police Department incident report, a female officer responded to a report of a “suspicious vehicle” in the parking lot of Ingles occupied by two Hispanic males who appeared to be intoxicated.
As the officer arrived, she saw the suspect vehicle leave Ingles and turn south on U.S. 441. She noted that it had no tag. According to the incident report, the vehicle turned onto Rob Belue Road. The officer drove by, did a U-turn and came back, where she said the same vehicle pulled out of Rob Belue Road and back onto U.S. 441, continuing south.
The officer said she pursued the vehicle, which turned right on Roy Howington Road “in an attempt to elude me.”
At the dead end, the officer said, the vehicle pulled into a driveway and its two occupants exited and began throwing things into a trash can. The officer ordered the men to put their hands up, the report said. One of the men complied, the other did not and began to walk away. The officer repeated the command, and the taller of the two suspects came toward her with one hand held behind his back, the officer said.
At that point, the officer drew her weapon. The noncompliant suspect fled on foot, and the officer arrested the one who did not run.
Jackson County deputies soon arrived on the scene and began looking for the “bush bond” subject, who they eventually found across a creek.
The other man, identified as Roberto Garbon Gonzalez, 45, 340A Tanglewood Drive, Monroe, seemed surprised to be arrested, the report indicated.
“I no drive, why trouble?” he asked.
He was charged with violation of the open container act after officers recovered still-cold beer containers from the trash. The homeowner confirmed to the officer that the containers were not his.
Meanwhile, Juan Arturo Perez-Martinez, 30, also of 340A Tanglewood Drive, Monroe, told deputies that he was not the driver of the vehicle. When advised that the officer saw him, he complained, “She no got picture of me.”
The officer charged Perez-Martinez with driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, driving with a suspended license, driving with a suspended registration, no insurance, no tag, obstruction of officers and violation of the open container law.
