When Commerce electric rates go up about 10 percent with the first bills of 2011, the city council wants the public to know who to blame — and who not to blame.
The rate increase, the council says, is the fault of the federal government, which is forcing owners of coal-fired power generating plants to install new equipment. Virtually every electric utility in America — including Jackson EMC and Georgia Power — is adjusting rates upward as well.

Is it just me or does anybody else think it's time for the city to start looking into generating their own electricity. The wind is free and will always be free and that will put more money in the city's pocket.
